From the horse’s mouth…

Just for people who are curious about more of the corporate and user aspects of chumby (as opposed to the hacking and engineering aspects, the parts that I’d rather blog about), the CEO of Chumby, Steve Tomlin, has a blog.

Below is a picture of the assembled prototype device (just got a cleaner-looking picture from the Chumby corporate site), and soon I’ll throw up a “virtual chumby” that plays widgets from my chumby account. The virtual chumby renders onto a web page the exact widgets that I look at on my chumby at home by my bed.

chumbys will be available for purchase in Q107, so still a few months away unfortunately. But you can come to my place and play with one if you want!

I am *very* excited about this – can’t wait to play with one.

I have to be somewhat critical about the industrial design though – why is it that engineers never seem to want to hire a designer?

I like the look of the iRiver u10 touchscreen mp3/video/FlashLite player sitting in its wireless seld (hey, similar screen spces and price!):

What are the holes on the left side for?

  6. Martin says:

It is imperative that I acquire more of the ovoid devices.

  7. bunnie says:

Martin–lmao, that’s hilarious. chumby desires not the barren wasteland of your dessicated viscera!

Angela–the holes are for the speaker. They actually aren’t that necessary, but they are there to highlight the fact that we have them. The speakers sound okay even behind the fabric, given that the fabric is fairly thin.

ah, so this is what you’ve been up to…good stuff, can’t wait to get one to kick around….
