Chumby’s Launched!

Well, time for the shameless plug. You’ve probably seen the posts on how the hardware is manufactured. Finally, after much hard work by the whole team, the Chumby is officially launched! If you’ve been waiting to get one, now’s as good a time as any other to buy one. As part of launch, the chumby website got a face-lift, and the launch firmware includes a lot of nice new features, bug fixes, and usability enhancements.

CNET and Gizmodo already have reviews of the chumby up. Chumby also has a set of launch partners, including CBS, Food Network, MySpace, MTV Mobile, Shoutcast and the Weather Channel. These launch partners, along with a growing community of independent widget developers, have contributed to the hundreds of widgets available now for the Chumby.

It’s about time! I may buy one to show off at a hotel board meeting so we can put them into about 35 deluxe suites… though physical security may be an issue.

How does pricing on bulk work anyway? I really like your blog anyway, VERY informative about the process you had to go through, and your personal joy of hardware =)

What??? I had one all picked out and the credit card all warmed up (ok, I actually have the number memorized) and “No International Addresses”?? C’mon, Canada is just barely international.

Sales to Canada please. Pretty please.

I’m with Paul here: let it ship to Canada please!

  8. bunnie says:

Hahah, I wish we could sell to Canada! It seemed so easy…but…Canada has mandatory French translations required, among other regulatory issues such as hardware certifications for emissions. Chumby hasn’t had a chance to implement regionalization and international regulatory requirements, and without the right paperwork and translations the customs officers will eventually block our shipments or worse yet, fine us. Or so we’re told.

However, the hardware is getting a certification paperwork to sell in most countries “soon”…in the meantime, I’ve noticed there is a constant supply of new chumbys up on eBay by entrepreneurial folks who have realized they can make money off of this current shortcoming…
